Is it really good to be ahead? GPS and WiFi are difficult to impress users

What is the purpose of purchasing an in car GPS navigator? Presumably, out of 10 consumers, 9 will answer 'location navigation'. According to the logical functions of the product, the original job of in car GPS navigators is to locate and navigate, but many manufacturers have imposed many additional functions on GPS, making it diversified and developed like a mobile phone.

Is it really good to be ahead? GPS and WIFI are no different from stealing money
Mio showcased GPS with WiFi function at the 2008 CTIA exhibition

Recently, at the CTIA Exhibition held in the United States, renowned GPS manufacturer Mio and ATX American Communication Systems jointly launched a GPS with "WiFi" function. On the surface, Mio's launch of this new GPS product has indeed expanded the application range of GPS navigators, but in essence, where is the practical application value of this new product?

In foreign countries, many countries have started laying public WiFi stations throughout the city, allowing citizens to access WiFi wireless internet anytime and anywhere. However, the fees for this type of city wide WiFi wireless internet service are not low (some countries in Europe and America actually have much higher internet service fees than China). In China, only a few large cities have a city wide WiFi connection point, which is not only expensive, but also unable to increase speed due to environmental limitations. Leaving aside these factors, do users who purchase GPS with WiFi function want to access the internet while driving, or do they want to replace PDA and use GPS as a multifunctional handheld computer?

Of course, we can assume that Mio's GPS with WiFi function is sold to Europe and America. But for the Chinese market, it would be more practical to design an ExpressCard slot on the GPS body and allow users to purchase their own CDMA wireless network card.

Within a certain range, the application of WiFi functionality has indeed provided great convenience for users. But for GPS, WiFi still belongs to advanced design, and when a advanced design has not yet been recognized by consumers, this product is being promoted to the market to grab money. With this money grabbing time, major GPS manufacturers may as well "lose their value" and launch low priced practical GPS products with single functions, making consumers truly feel the manufacturer's care.
